Rock and Roll always has been, and always will be the devil's music. But is it possible to baptize yourself in the sound created by Satan? If Rock and Roll died 50 years ago, is reincarnation possible? If so- is it coming back as ‘trap metal’? Trap Metal (also called rage core and death rap) is an up-and-coming genre that combines elements of grunge, industrial, and nu-metal. With groups like $uicideboy$, who is most famously known for their self-deprecating lyrics, insane beat drops, and great pits, and actively selling out arenas, we must ask ourselves... Is the fate of Rock and Roll in their hands?

Are these overly processed button-produced beats the future of Rock and Roll? $uicideboy$ have gained a cult following and seen rapid growth since they first hit the scene in 2014. With a gut-wrenching tale of two cousins (Ruby da Cherry and Scrim) who held each other to a suicide pact if their music career was to never take off, $uicideboy$ came to be. The angst-ridden teens of the 21st century ate it right up, and rightfully so. With songs titled like- “If Self-Destruction Was an Olympic Event, I’d be Tonya Harding”, “Materialism as a Means to an End” and “Fuck Your Culture” $uicideboy$ is eager, vile, filthy, and completely and utterly authentic. Encompassing all the nitty gritty real and raw filth that Rock and Roll lovers crave and need. In the year 2023, the concept of having four guys authentically get together in their garage to jam and create new sounds seems to be becoming a lost art. We as a community seem to be drifting further and further away from what the founders of the genre intended. Although Rock and Roll has no limits, if the fate of Rock and Roll is in $uicideboy$’s hands, the world might be safe. Cherry and Scrim speak truth and raise awareness of issues that might otherwise go unseen. Issues of substance abuse, self-hatred, self-doubt, and the struggles that come with just simply staying alive. They can reach and connect with a generation that is completely disconnected. The music they have produced could add lightness to the ever-failing social climate of the world today.

If Rock and Roll is truly dead, it is a dangerous time to be alive, but for as long as there is you and for as long there is me- there is Rock and Roll. You can’t kill rock and roll because it is in the heart, and we all have a heart.

“Cause rock ‘n’ roll is my religion, and my law won’t ever change, may think it’s strange. You can’t kill rock ‘n’ roll, it's here to stay” (Ozzy Osbourne, You Can’t Kill Rock & Roll).
