My Big "Why"

Using music to shape me. As I embark on new adventures it felt right to release my statement of purpose.

Being in your early 20s means opportunities, growth, change, fear, excitement, and everything in between. For me, it means one thing: purpose. As my college graduation day quickly approached, the fear and anxiety of post-graduate life began to come in waves. With the whole world at my fingertips and an endless array of possibilities in front of me, I find it impossible to pick which road to take. Though recently completing a degree in Human Performance, I am only sure of three things: my passion for human connection, my love for music, and my ability to free my mind through writing. With still so much that I do not know, and carrying with me an insatiable appetite, I need “more”- more knowledge, more questions, more learning, and ultimately more answers. I turn to books and literature to fill in the gaps of all I long to know and for all I long to be.

My enriching and enlightening academic adventure at The University of Tampa culminated in a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance. To feed an appetite I discovered I had, I took courses such as Student Radio, Introduction to Script Writing for Motion Pictures, and The History of Rock and Roll, sparking my passion for media, publishing, literature, and journalism. These classes have inspired my blog “Your Rockstar Girlfriend,” an idea built on the power of women and the power that women have to succeed in all atmospheres, especially the music industry. My interest in music journalism and my drive to succeed have cascaded into an entirely new world of opportunities, opening doors for me well beyond my wildest dreams, such as working with the music magazine Musaholic as a contributing writer, as well as my current summer internship at Enamoured Sound Studios.

My background in Human Performance has provided me with a solid foundation of the human body, mind, and spirit, giving me insight into how humans function and perform as I help them reach their greatest potential. I aim to apply this understanding to the field of journalism, where it is crucial to not only supply facts but also connect with people on a deeper level. By knowing how individuals experience and interact with the world around them, I can approach interviews with a new level of empathy and awareness, listening, engaging, drawing out, and finding layers of content and context within stories. Perspective and approach allow me to elicit authenticity, making my journalism and writing more impactful and relatable.

During my studies, I plan to bridge the gap between science and art, specifically how media influences perception and affects human behavior, mental well-being, and the development of adolescence. In my post-graduate career, I plan to continue to aspire and inspire using words to cultivate an army of women who embody self-belief, virtue, and determination. I aim to create digestible content that empowers women, fostering a community of strength and support.

As I embark on new adventures I wish for three things: more art, more inspiration, and more creation.
